ASUS VivoTab RT review: everything you loved about the Transformer tablets, but with Windows

ASUS VivoTab RT review everything you loved about the Transformer tablets, but with Windows

Read the comments on any of our ASUS Transformer Pad reviews. It doesn't matter if you pick the mid-range TF300 or the high-end Infinity. You'll invariably find someone saying, "That's nice, but can't it run Windows 8?" It's a perfectly sane request: sure, a tablet and optional keyboard dock make for a convenient setup, but how great would it be if you could use that keyboard to get work done in Microsoft Office? Ditto for the dock's USB port: being able to plug in a thumb drive is a good start, but it'd be even sweeter if you could drag and drop files, as you would on a PC.

Well, ladies and gents, you can quit your fantasizing. ASUS is ready to start shipping the VivoTab RT (TF600), and we're guessing it's pretty darn close to whatever Franken-tablet you've been dreaming up. Which is to say, it takes everything we loved about ASUS' Transformer Pads, and adds Windows RT. Like other tablets in ASUS' lineup, it has a 10-inch Super IPS+ display with claimed 178-degree viewing angles and a 600-nit brightness rating. Other tried-and-true specs include a quad-core Tegra 3 chip; an 8-megapixel, autofocusing rear camera capable of recording 1080p video; SonicMaster audio; and long battery life -- in this case, up to nine hours for the tablet and up to seven for the keyboard dock. At 8.3mm thick and 1.2 pounds, it's also about as thin and light as any Transformer Pad. Lastly, the VivoTab has NFC -- something you won't find on any of ASUS' older slates.

The VivoTab RT should be available beginning today, starting at $599 for the 32GB tablet with a keyboard dock included. A 64GB tablet-and-dock bundle will retail for $699. So is this as good a buy as ASUS' earlier tablets. And how does it compare to other Windows RT devices being offered at a similar price? Let's find out.

2006 Mr. Olympia Men's of Dennis Wolf, Ronny Rockel, Rodney St ...

Mr. Olympia is the title awarded to the winner of the professional men?s bodybuilding contest at Joe Weider?s Olympia Weekend ? an international bodybuilding competition that is held annually by the International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness (IFBB).[1] Joe Weider created the contest to enable the Mr. Universe winners to continue competing and to earn money. The first Mr. Olympia was held on September 18, 1965 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York City, with Larry Scott winning his first of two straight titles.
The record number of wins is eight, held by Lee Haney (1984?1991) and Ronnie Coleman (1998?2005). Phil Heath currently holds the title. The film Pumping Iron (1977), featured the build up to the 1975 Mr. Olympia in Pretoria South Africa and helped launch the acting careers of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno. There is also a female bodybuilder crowned, the Ms. Olympia, as are winners of Fitness Olympia and Figure Olympia for fitness and figure competitors. All four contests occur during the same weekend. During the 1990s and early 2000s (decade), a Masters Olympia was also crowned.

Prestige car owners pay up to ?13,000 for repairs ? Automotive ...

OWNERS of performance and prestige cars pay twice as much to repair their vehicles as drivers of more regular runabouts and can be faced with bills of up to ?13,000, it is claimed.

?

According to automotive specialist, Warranty Direct, the average cost of a breakdown across its 50,000 live policies is ?325.25, but a study of the claims paid in the last 12 months on prestige vehicles reveals an average bill of nearly ?635.

?

And, a month after Warranty Direct revealed that hourly garage labour rates had reached record levels, performance motorists are feeling the pinch even more when it comes to top-end repairs, with workshop bills running well into five figure sums.

?

In one extreme case identified by the study, for Warranty Direct?s unique Reliability Index ? www.reliabilityindex.com ? the owner of a Range Rover Vogue was presented with what could be theUK?s biggest garage bill ? ?12,998.46.

?

Warranty Direct?s annual study of workshops revealed a national average of ?82.86 for an hour of a mechanic?s time and a high of ?201.60 per hour.

?

Warranty Direct managing director, Duncan McClure Fisher, said: ?Owners of luxury or sports cars are, by definition, able to afford something a bit less ordinary than the everyday runabouts. But, in reality, who can really afford bills that run into several thousands to repair their car?

?

?Parts for prestige models will always cost more than those for regular vehicles but you still have to account for labour, which is often also more expensive if you are using a prestige manufacturer dealership.?

?

In the case of the Range Rover Vogue owner, the massive bill was caused by the failure of faulty injectors and a turbo unit. After the engine had been stripped, a process that takes 22 hours of labour, the diagnosis demanded a complete engine replacement, along with a new turbo.

?

Elsewhere, among the most extreme claims handled by Warranty Direct in the last year, one motorist faced paying ?10,170.40 to replace the cylinder block in his BMW 740i Sport, while an engine failure landed an Audi QuattroTDIdriver with an unwanted cost of ?9,016.45.

Sprint rolls out new 4G tablet data plans November 11th, likely just in time for new(er) iPad, iPad mini

As a carrier trailing Verizon and AT&T in terms of subscribers and now 4G coverage, Sprint has made it a habit to undercut the other two on value. While its upcoming tablet-specific data plans won't necessarily be cheaper, they do promise up to 20 percent more data for the same price and still do not require a contract. Sure to come in handy now that it's offering the fourth generation iPad and iPad mini on its network, they are 300MB/$14.99, 3GB/$34.99, 6GB/$49.99, or 12GB for $79.99. There are also $10 and $15 offers for customers that also have Sprint smartphones that offer 100MB and 1GB of data, respectively, and activation fees for all 3G/4G tablets are being waived for a limited time. As you'll recall, Verizon and AT&T's offerings include 2GB/$30 (3GB/$30 on AT&T), 5GB/$50 and on Verizon, 10GB/$80 packages. Even if you're not an Apple user these plans apply for all 4G capable slates, with Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 specifically mentioned. For those planning to pick up one of the latest iPads with wifi + cellular capability however, their mid-November launch date may have narrowed slightly , since these plans go into effect November 11th. Check the press release after the break or a post on its Sprint Community blog for more info.

Breaking News

1021-justin-bieber-tmzMission accomplished for one of Justin Bieber's biggest fans -- a little girl who is fighting cancer, got a private meeting with JB after a huge social media campaign that included a call to TMZ Live.

4-year-old Hailey Roser was all smiles during the 5 minute pow wow backstage with the Biebs before his concert in Milwaukee tonight.

Hailey's parents started the "Healing Hailey" campaign on Twitter and Facebook after she was diagnosed with a brain tumor in August -- and a few weeks ago one of the campaign's followers called in to TMZ Live to spread the word.

We joked with the caller, saying ... "we know some people" -- and then informed Justin's manager Scooter Braun about the "Healing Hailey" movement.

Hailey's been undergoing chemotherapy and had to get clearance from doctor's today to attend the concert. After meeting Justin, she tweeted a message to her followers ... "Dreams come true #believe"
