Robert Taylor Ranch Back On The Market At $28 Million (PHOTOS)

Can you put a price on history? Apparently so, and a dropping one at that.

The legendary Robert Taylor Ranch -- one of Los Angeles' most exclusive and private compounds -- has come back on the market at $28 million. The historic home had at one point been listed for $65 million, and we all know how that turned out.

The 70-room estate with more than 20,000 square feet of living space is now owned by New Stream Capital, a financial services firm based in Connecticut. The property was transferred to the firm in 2010 as part of a debt settlement by its previous owner -- KROQ founder Ken Roberts, the man who brought modern rock to Los Angeles. Other former owners include the actor Robert Taylor, hence the name that's stuck. The ranch was built in 1956 for Waite Phillips and designed by architect Robert Byrd.

The Robert Taylor Ranch occupies 112 prime acres in Brentwood, making it the largest residential property in the city. Features include an 11,700-square-foot main house with 34 rooms, a 4,000-square-foot recreational complex and a 3,100-square-foot guest house. The estate includes a pool, tennis courts and horse stables.

Roberts had the property on and off the market at various prices including a low of $35 million and a high of $65 million.

Marcie Hartley and Aaron Kirman, both of Hilton & Hyland Real Estate in Beverly Hills, co-listed the property.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) ? After going more than two years and 26 tournaments without a win, and after so much turmoil in his personal life and with his golf game, Tiger Woods stood over a 6-foot birdie putt Sunday to win the Chevron World Challenge and felt as though nothing had changed.

Finally, the outcome was familiar, too.

Woods poured in the putt to cap off a birdie-birdie finish at Sherwood, close with a 3-under 69 and beat former Masters champion Zach Johnson by one shot. The win ended a drought that lasted 749 days, and might have signaled a change that Woods is on his way back.

He swept his arm across the air, yelled through the din of the gallery and slammed his fist in a celebration that was a long time coming.

Relief? Satisfaction? Vindication?

Woods wasn't sure, and he didn't much care.

"It just feels awesome whatever it is," he said.

Trailing by one shot with two holes to play, Woods came up with two clutch putts. He holed a 15-footer for birdie on the par-3 17th to pull into a tie with Johnson, then hit a 9-iron from 158 yards that landed on the ridge behind the hole and rolled down to 6 feet.

"I've been in contention twice this year, which is not very often," Woods said. "So that's my third time with a chance to win it. I pulled it off this time."

It was his 83rd win worldwide in tournaments that award ranking points, but his first since he won the Australian Masters on Nov. 15, 2009, back when he looked as though he would rule golf for as long as he played.

But he crashed his car into a fire hydrant outside his Florida home on Thanksgiving night, and shocking revelations of extramarital affairs began to emerge, which shattered his image, led to a divorce and cost him four major sponsors. Since then, he has changed swing coaches, caddies and endured more injuries, causing him to miss two majors and fail to make the cut in another.

Now, however, it looks clear that Woods is on an upward path.

"If the man is healthy, that's paramount," Johnson said. "I mean, he's the most experienced and the best player I've ever played with. In every situation, he knows how to execute and win."

Even though those situations have been rare, Woods looked as though he had not forgotten how to win. The only other times he has been in contention this year were the Masters and the Australian Open.

"I felt normal, felt very comfortable," Woods said. "I've been here so many times that, you know, I just feel very comfortable being here in this position. Was I nervous? Absolutely. Always nervous in that position. But it's a comfortable feeling, and I enjoy being in that position. For some reason, it's kind of a comfort to be in there with a chance to win."

Woods won the Chevron World Challenge, which he hosts for his foundation, for the fifth time. He finished at 10-under 278 and donated the $1.2 million to his foundation.

The win moved him from No. 52 to No. 21 in the world ranking, and likely will send expectations soaring for 2012. Woods will not play again until starting his year in Abu Dhabi at the end of January.

If this win felt differently than the last one, Woods wasn't saying.

"They all feel good," he said. "They're not easy. People don't realize how hard it is to win golf tournaments. I've gone on streaks where I've won golf tournaments in a row, but still ... I don't think I've taken it for granted. And I know because of how hard it is."

He had a worthy adversary in Johnson, who had a one-shot lead going into the final round and trailed for only three holes. Johnson tied Woods with a birdie on the par-5 13th, made an unlikely par on the 14th by chipping from the bottom of the green, and appeared to seize control by holing a 12-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole.

Johnson thought his birdie putt on the 17th was good all the way until it burned the edge of the cup. Woods, running out of time, drained his birdie putt to force a tie and send the tournament to the 18th. Johnson missed a 15-foot birdie try, leaving the stage to Woods.

Johnson closed with a 71 and still took home $650,000 for the holidays. Paul Casey, who opened with a 79, had his third straight round in the 60s to finish alone in third at 5 under.

"Tiger can have a long career," Casey said when he finished. "We might look back in another 10 years and actually forget about the last couple of years."

Woods had a four-shot lead over Graeme McDowell a year ago, a margin that evaporated quickly when Woods showed early signs of a struggle, particularly with a pair of three-putts. There was no such evidence this time.

After nearly driving into trouble to the right of the par-5 second, Woods escaped and hit wedge to 3? feet for birdie. His lone bogey on the front nine came at the par-3 eighth, with a back right pin that requires a fade. Woods tugged it well left of the green, and his pitch at a 45-degree angle was too strong and rolled into the fringe about 15 feet away.

Johnson's chip on the third was too strong, he three-putted from about 35 feet for bogey on the fifth and he played a poor chip from below the eighth green for another bogey.

They were tied at the turn when Woods began to pull away. From the right rough, Woods hit a soft sand wedge that landed in the first cut short of the green and fed down the slope to about 4 feet. He two-putted from long range for birdie on the par-5 11th to stretch his lead to two shots when Johnson caught a buried lie in the bunker.

Woods bogeyed the 12th from a bunker, though, and Johnson's birdie on the 13th set up a final hour that was up for grabs until Woods came through in the clutch on the last two holes.

Woods' tournament, which has an 18-man field, has been a good omen for others over the years. The most recent example was Jim Furyk, who won in 2009 and then had his first three-win season the next year and captured the FedEx Cup.

No one ever imagined Woods needing a boost, but that might be the case.

"I don't think we're going to see another 2011, if that makes sense," Furyk said, alluding to Woods failing to reach the FedEx Cup playoffs this year. "If he steadily progresses, keeps getting confidence and moving forward, he's going to return and be one of the best players in the game again."

Hans Zimmer Discusses Dark Knight Rises Score

hans zimmer dark knight rises score

Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer previously collaborated with James Newton Howard on the scores for both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.?However, he is the sole composer working on filmmaker Christopher Nolan?s Batman trilogy finale, The Dark Knight Rises.

Zimmer was doing press rounds for?Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows when he opened up a bit about his approach to scoring the third installment in Nolan?s Caped Crusader saga. He also addressed long-standing rumors that he is locked to provide musical accompaniment for director Zack Snyder?s Superman franchise reboot, Man of Steel, which Nolan helped lay the narrative foundation for (he?s receiving story-writing credit) and is serving as a producer on.

On the topic of how he began composing the Dark Knight Rises soundtrack, Zimmer had the following to say (via The Playlist):

?Actually, before I started on[the ?Sherlock Holmes? sequel] I had an idea for ?The Dark Knight Rises? and I said to Chris [Nolan], I just have this idea, this experiment, and it really it is something that I have no idea if it will work ? have I earned the right yet to just get myself a really big orchestra into a room for a couple of days and just try this experiment? If I think and you think it?s horrible we?ll just throw it away and pretend it never happened and nobody?s going to give me a hard time later about it. It took him half a second to go, ?Yeah, of course ? go knock yourself out.? So out of that actually came 25 minutes of pretty intense stuff that we have, and honestly I?m overflowing with ideas.

?? Plus, those 25 minutes are [made up of] completely new stuff, and I?ve just started. I think that the problem with working on sequels is how to keep them fresh for yourself, and both with ?Sherlock? and with ?Dark Knight? so far I?ve been able to manage to do that.?

With regards to the decision to allow regular people to record their own vocals (on the site Ujam) and participate in the (now, famous)??Dark Knight Rises chant?:

?We?ve created this world on ?Dark Knight,? and we?re sticking pretty autonomously to this world, but at the same time, our fans and the audience are inhabiting this world. And if you can actually pull them in and let them be part of this adventure, which is really what I?ve been trying to do. You, it?s really just a small facet of the whole thing, but we are trying to think out of the box? [Also, obviously] we?re talking about ? who isn?t? ? talking about where the world is going at the moment. So the idea of the chant, for instance, that pre-dated Occupy Wall Street by quite a bit, but suddenly you find, oh, hang on a second, there?s something in the zeitgeist which moves us all.?

Lastly, Zimmer said that Man of Steel is ?in direct [scheduling] conflict? with another project he is working on; so, while he may ultimately work on that Snyder-directed film, Zimmer is not actively involved with the creative process on that comic book flick (for the time being).

Composer Hans Zimmer Talks about Scores for Dark Knight Rises and Superman Man of Steel

Zimmer may NOT work on both 'Dark Knight Rises' and 'Man of Steel'.

Newton Howard and Zimmer?s joint musical work on Nolan?s previous Batman films remains quite popular, if only for how well it manages to enhance the broodingly dramatic atmosphere and heighten the (often, volatile) tension that pervades both movies ? as perhaps best evidenced by the ?Why So Serious?? theme in The Dark Knight.

Given that The Dark Knight Rises is being talked up as a thematically and visually epic conclusion to Nolan?s telling of Batman/Bruce Wayne?s personal journey, it will be interesting to see just how the film?s soundtrack differs from its predecessors. If the aforementioned ?Dark Knight Rises?chant? is any indication, Zimmer plans to go heavier on the ?big, loud, and angry? material with his orchestral themes, this time around. Frankly, that sounds all the more appropriate, given just how (insanely) large-scale everything in The Dark Knight Rises?is shaping up to be.

The Dark Knight Rises will hit theaters around the U.S. on July 20th, 2012.

Man of Steel is slated for theatrical release in the U.S. on June 14th, 2013.

Tom Hiddleston Talks Thor 2

If every interview could be with Tom Hiddleston for the rest of my career, I'd be happy. Know this about the actor before we get to the juicy Marvel stuff: He's pleasant, polite, unbelievably warm, gracious and just a great person to be around after a long day of doing press for an upcoming film. That's where I met up with Hiddleston yesterday,?meeting up with the man to chat about?Steven Spielberg's War Horse, where Hiddleston plays a British war hero whose character is?instrumental to the segmented plot. We'll have more with Hiddleston closer to release, but you love the Marvel stuff so I figured we'll let you have those details first.

As far as Thor 2 is concerned, yes, Hiddleston will be playing Loki in the film once again, though he hasn't yet seen a script for that yet. Which begs the question: Just how many Marvel movies will Loki appear in? "Well I signed for six films initially, and I've done two -- Thor and The Avengers," Hiddleston told Movies.com. "I don't know how long people will be interested in me, but we'll see." Regarding Thor 2, Hiddleston added, "Thor 2 is in production, yeah. I haven't seen the script or anything, but I'm thrilled that Patty Jenkins is going to direct. Really, really excited. As a director she has this incredible handling of performance and the muscularity of that character. She's absolutely fearless, and I think she and Chris [Hemsworth] will take Thor in a really cool direction."

Thor 2 is due in theaters on July 26th, 2013. Keep an eye out for more from Hiddleston as the release date for War Horse (which I really enjoyed, for whatever that's worth) approaches.

Italy PM Monti raises taxes, reforms pensions in austerity drive (Reuters)

ROME (Reuters) ? Prime Minister Mario Monti unveiled a 30-billion-euro package of austerity measures on Sunday -- increasing value added tax, reintroducing a property tax, and raising the pension age -- in a drive to gain control of Italy's strained public finances.

The measures, intended to reassure financial markets which have sent Italy's borrowing costs to untenable levels, come ahead of a vital week of meetings in which European leaders race to prevent the euro zone debt crisis from sliding out of control.

Monti said the package, divided between 20 billion euros of budget measures over 2012-14 and a further 10 billion euros in measures to boost growth, contained big sacrifices, but the government had sought to spread the burden as fairly as possible.

Farrah Abraham vs. The Kardashians: IT IS ON!

Thanks a lot, Farrah Abraham. You've forced us to take the side of the Kardashians.

Earlier today, the former Teen Mom star randomly Tweeted her reaction to Kourtney Kardashian's second pregnancy, writing: Im shocked Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant again, Did she not learn anything from TEEN MOM? Maybe its a fake pregnancy, like kims wedding SAD.

Farrah Abraham Ditches DaughterKourtney Kardashian Pregnant Cover

Kourtney, in response, pointed out one of the major differences between her situation and that of Farrah and her MTV co-stars, Tweeting "I'm 32 years old! I may look young, honey, but don't get it twisted."

Kardashian, of course, is also a multi-millionaire with a large support system... and that's before you consider E! producers!

Scott Disick also jumped in to this Tweet-off, referring to Abraham as "some s-it stain" and echoing his girlfriend's stance: "We're not teenagers, ya f-cking moron."

But Farrah was not to be denied! She concluded her rant with: "Guess what! Age and money honestly do not change a person's poor choice. Quit making excuses."

It's pretty difficult, but try to choose a side in this asinine feud:

Vicky Alvear Shecter: Stop Denying the Power of Denial

Denial is a powerful and frightening thing.

What else could convince otherwise good people to believe that what think they see in front of them -- no matter how horrendous -- isn't really happening? Or that the person they consider such a "nice guy" could really be capable of doing something heinous? Or that someone else is "handling the situation," so you don't have to do anything?

Nowhere is the power of denial more evident than in the sex abuse scandals coming out of Penn State and Syracuse University. Two likeable, respected assistant coaches at powerful collegiate athletic programs have been accused of molesting boys for years. Powerful people knew. Many suspected. But nobody did anything to stop them. The level of denial up and down the ranks is breathtaking. Denial allowed the accused to continue to allegedly molest vulnerable children with impunity for years.

Most of us think that we wouldn't be like "those people" who saw things or heard rumors but did not act. WE would've done something. But that denies the power of denial.

Denial maintains the status quo. It keeps people employed, their careers intact, their livelihoods safe. It keeps chaos at bay. It is a powerful force.

The ancient Romans had a name for that strong impulse toward denial -- a legal designation called damnatio memoriae, a phrase that means "condemnation of memory." It gave legal sanction to completely erase the condemned from all written records, statues, carvings and paintings. You were, in effect, legally and completely "erased."

Denial at it's finest.

Our collective impulse toward denial is no less strong. You could see it in action when a local Pennsylvania artist painted Sandusky's image right out of a large mural celebrating Penn State's greatest (story here). The artist was making the ugliness "disappear "in a way we can't in real life. Now, I don't have an opinion as to whether the artist was right or wrong to erase the image of Sandusky -- it was his painting, so his right. I'm more curious about the impulse that drove him to wipe his image out of his -- and our -- sights.

On some levels, we all want to erase the Jerry Sanduskys and Bernie Fines (Syracuse) of the world from our collective memories. Their alleged crimes are simply too horrible, too revolting to believe. But denial never works. Just ask the children who continued being abused -- for years -- because no one wanted to believe the worst.

We can't afford to be in denial about the power of denial any longer. We must "see" what really is in front of us -- even if it turns our stomach -- and take action to stop it. We have to act even if it means we may become "unpopular" or lose our jobs. We must stop pretending that "nice" people don't do terrible things.

We must forgo damnatio memoriae and face the ugliness around us. Because pretending evil is not there only perpetuates it.

US trade panel considers solar dispute with China

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A federal trade panel has found that Chinese imports harm or threaten to harm the U.S. solar panel industry.

That means a complaint by U.S. solar companies can continue.

Seven companies complained to the International Trade Commission in October that Chinese competitors were "dumping" solar products on global markets to depress prices.

The complaint asks for tough trade penalties on Chinese solar imports.

The trade panel voted unanimously Friday to investigate.

The case has caused a split in the solar industry.

Some U.S. companies say Chinese imports have lowered prices for solar panels, helping consumers and promoting rapid growth of the industry.

California-based Solyndra Inc. cited competition from China as it filed for bankruptcy in September despite receiving a half-billion-dollar federal loan.
